Dave Newbery has a long history of creating, and providing consulting services to, private foundations and other charitable organizations. Serving as outside attorney for private foundations requires knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code as well as the law of nonprofit corporations and trusts. Many private foundations and other charities are operating organizations that have the same concerns and legal needs as for-profit organizations. Dave’s knowledge and experience with private for-profit businesses lends itself to providing similar services to nonprofit entities.

In addition to organizing and providing consulting services to private foundations, the law firm prepares IRS Form 1023 (Application for Recognition of Exemption) and the IRS annual report Form 990-PF (Return of Private Foundation) for clients. However, some of our private foundation clients also have an outside CPA firm that provides accounting services and prepares these IRS reports. The law firm enjoys working with and coordinating efforts with our clients’ CPA firms. However, many CPA firms are not comfortable preparing these IRS forms and the law firm therefore provides this service as an accommodation to our clients.
