C. David Newbery, MBA, CPA, JD has over 30 years of experience in Kansas and Federal tax matters, including both tax planning and litigation.  In addition, his practice includes other tax-sensitive areas such as estate planning, probate, trust administration and general business law.  Dave is also a mediator and arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association and has served as court Special Master for cases involving complex accounting, financial, and tax related issues.  Dave is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

 

 

       

After growing up in Colby, Kansas, Dave graduated from the University of Kansas where he received his B. A. degree in 1969, MBA in 1971, and JD in 1973.  In addition, he became licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1974.  Dave served as Director of Taxation with the Kansas Department of Revenue from 1976 to 1979.  From 1982 to 1988 he served as Assistant Professor of Taxation at Washburn University School of Business where he currently teaches “Legal Environment of Business” as an adjunct instructor.  Dave also taught several courses as an adjunct professor at Washburn University School of Law, including State and Local Taxation (1977-78), Advanced Estate Planning (1983) and Estate and Gift Taxation (1991-1998).  Dave is a frequent speaker at seminars and workshops on estate planning, state and federal taxation and related topics, having logged over 75 such appearances during the course of his career.  In addition, Dave serves as the Kansas correspondent for the weekly publication, State Tax Notes.
